Moises Caicedo served his one-match suspension against Arsenal.

Albion kick off 2023 as they did 2022 with a trip to Goodison Park to face Everton on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.

Everton start the game in 16th place, a point above the bottom three after they ended a run of three straight league defeats with an excellent 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Saturday, thanks to Demarai Gray’s second-half goal.

Another boost for boss Frank Lampard was striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s return after injury. Lampard has recalled another striker, Ellis Simms, from his loan spell at Sunderland to give him more options up front.

Everton have only won twice at Goodison this season, the last time on October 22 when they beat Crystal Palace 3-0.

Albion on the other hand boast a brilliant away record this campaign, having won four of their eight matches on the road.

Despite suffering a defeat to Arsenal on New Year's Eve, Roberto De Zerbi's men have won three of their last five outings in the league and could move as high as seventh with a victory on Tuesday night.

Team news

Moises Caicedo is available again after serving a one-match suspension against Arsenal on Saturday.

Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that he will still be without Adam Webster and Danny Welbeck, who are yet to play for us since the Premier League restarted after the World Cup.

Player to watch

Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi made his 200th Premier League appearance against City on Saturday and is playing some of the best football of his career, clocking up 17 appearances this season and admired by Everton fans for his work on and off the ball.

The 26-year-old clocked up his 100th League appearance at the Etihad having joined the club in 2019 for a £34m fee after starting his career with Arsenal.

PL Highlights: Everton 2 Albion 3

Albion’s 3-2 win against Everton on January 2 last year was our first at Goodison Park, although we have only met them 21 times in our history.

We did draw there twice in the early 1980s in the old First Division, but ten Premier League meetings have yielded three wins, two of them at the Amex. Jurgen Locadia’s second-half goal secured a 1-0 victory in 2018 and the following year goals in the last ten minutes by Neal Maupay – now an Everton player – and Lucas Digne’s own goal sealed a 3-2 win.

It will be a much-changed Albion team on Tuesday compared to a year ago. Four of the starters that day – Dan Burn, Marc Cucurella, Yves Bissouma and Maupay – are no longer with the club while Enock Mwepu has had to retire and Adam Webster is injured.

Alexis Mac Allister became only the third Albion player to score twice in a Premier League game that day.

Stats and facts

  • Of all sides Everton have faced at least five times at home in the Premier League, only against Fulham do they have a higher win rate (93%).
  • Everton have lost their first league game in each of the last five calendar years. It's their longest such run since losing their first league game in seven consecutive years between 1957 and 1963.
  • Albion have lost their first league game in just one of the last 13 calendar years (W7 D5), losing 1-0 at home to Wolves in 2016.
  • Everton have lost three of their last four home Premier League matches (W1), losing the last two in a row. The Toffees last lost three in a row at Goodison Park in February 2021, while Frank Lampard hasn’t lost three home games in a row in the Premier League as a player or manager since March 2001, when he played for West Ham.
  • We have never won away from home on a Tuesday in the Premier League in nine previous attempts (D2 L7). Their last away top-flight win on this day of the week was in March 1983 against Swansea, winning 2-1 with goals from Michael Robinson and Jimmy Case.
  • Albion have won their last two away Premier League games, the seventh time the Seagulls have won consecutive away games since promotion in 2017 but we’ve never won three in a row in the top-flight on the road.
  • Everton have lost three of their last five Premier League matches when scoring first at Goodison Park (W2), including last time out against Wolves. Before this, the Toffees had only lost three of their previous 42 home league games when scoring first (W34 D5).
  • Everton’s Frank Lampard has never lost against Brighton in a Premier League match (W2 D1), only facing Crystal Palace more often without losing in the competition as a manager (P5 W5). He did, however, lose an FA Cup match against them back in February 2019, when he was Derby County manager.
  • Adam Lallana has scored in each of his last two away Premier League appearances, netting twice, one more than in his previous 60 away games in the competition. However, he’s never scored in 13 appearances and with 16 attempts at goal against Everton in the Premier League.
