Samy Chouchane sent an effort narrowly over early on against QPR.

Our men’s under-21s made it 12 consecutive matches unbeaten against academy sides with a 0-0 draw with QPR in the Premier League Cup on Friday evening.

Shannon Ruth was once again without ten of his squad who returned last night from a week of warm weather training in Dubai with the first team.

Of their dozen unbeaten, this marked the first goalless draw for the under-21s and the scoreline was very much a reflection of the game, with just four shots on target mustered in total.

Benicio Baker-Boaitey was unable to continue his for in front of goal, having netted twice against PSV on Monday.

Samy Chouchane fired narrowly over from 20 yards just five minutes in, before Killian Cahill was right behind Adam Dougi’s rasping effort from the edge of the box.

Had the ball fallen slightly kinder for Benicio Baker-Boaitey the winger may well have forced Rangers keeper Harry Kant into a more testing save after 25 minutes, but the effort was a comfortable one for the stopper.

Casey Shann had the best chance of the match ten minutes after the restart when he met Baker-Boaitey’s cross, but sliced his first time effort well over the QPR goal.

Casey Shann fired well over early on in the second half.

The point for Ruth’s team sees them maintain top spot in Group B, while a draw against Derby County in their final group match in ten days’ time will be enough to see them through to the knockout stages.
