Solly March can't wait to return to action in an Albion shirt.

Solly March has been happy to have a breather during the World Cup but admits he and his teammates are already looking forward to Albion’s return to action on December 21.

The Premier League has had a hiatus since November 13 but returns on Boxing Day when Albion head to Southampton.

After some time off the players have been back in training since the start of December and this week are in Dubai for a warm-weather camp, which culminates today with a friendly against Aston Villa behind closed doors (UK 1pm kick off).

Albion face Aston Villa in a friendly on Thursday.

“It’s been nice to have that break and come out to Dubai and get some sun but it feels a bit like pre-season again,” he said. “I know there’s a one-week winter break in January 2024 for next season which I think is a good idea – maybe they could make it two!

“But we’re footballers and we want to play. And football is a big part of Christmas in England so it will be good to playing again then because it’s such a great time of for the fans.

“We can’t complain. It will be good to be back, it’s our job and we love doing it.”

Before the Premier League resumes there is a Carabao Cup fourth round tie at the Valley five days earlier when Albion head to League One Charlton to battle for a place in the quarter-finals.

“I’m probably one of the few players in the squad who have played there and I like the Valley,” said Solly. “It’s a proper old-school London stadium and it looks like we’re going to have a massive support with us who I’m sure will be very loud.

“It will be a tough game but there aren’t many of the big clubs left in the competition and we’re taking it really seriously. I’ve always enjoyed playing there and we’re looking forward to going there.”
