Lee Geummin scrambled the ball home late on.

Our women’s team’s unbeaten run came to an end on Sunday as Manchester City ran out 3-1 winners in the Barclays Women's Super League.

City went in at the break 3-0 up thanks to goals from Chloe Kelly, Julie Blakstad and Laura Coombs, before a spirited second-half performance from the visitors was rewarded when Geummin Lee netted a late consolation goal.

The clash marked a seventh defeat in eight for us against the Cityzens, who made it seven wins from seven in the league with a game to go before the winter break.

City looked dangerous early on when Chloe Kelly’s dinked effort flew over both Megan Walsh and the Albion crossbar, before her low cross just evaded Laura Coombs at the far post.

Chloe Kelly's corner went in at the near post.

The England international wasn’t to be denied as she gave her side the lead after 11 minutes in unexpected circumstances, as her cross from a corner beat everyone to fly in at the near post.

Kelly turned provider eight minutes later as her ball in from the right was nodded in by Julie Blakstad, before Coombs thumped one into the top left corner from the edge of the box.

We rallied after the break and despite Leila Oahabi’s early second-half effort smacking the post, our efforts deserved to be rewarded.

Julia Zigiotti fired just wide from range before Poppy Pattinson’s low effort ultimately was a fairly tame one for Ellie Roebuck to gather.

Albion went into the game unbeaten in their last three outings.

Our best chance seemed to fall the way of Danielle Carter with 20 minutes to play when she was slotted through with City captain Alex Greenwood doing well to hold up the striker, before blocking her low effort behind for a corner.

Albion continued to push though and in added time, Lee poked home from close range to ensure Albion had something to show for their efforts on a chilly afternoon in Manchester.
