Amy Merricks has overseen a win and a draw in her first two games in interim charge.

Amy Merricks has been encouraged by the ‘positive signs’ her team have shown in recent performances.

Merricks has been in interim charge for our last two games following the departure of Hope Powell and has overseen a 5-4 win at West Ham and 3-3 draw with Liverpool.

Those scorelines saw Albion score eight of their ten league goals this season, having only scored twice in their opening five WSL fixtures.

WSL Highlights: Albion 3 Liverpool 3

“The most pleasing thing is the team’s approach to the games, we’ve played with some real intent and we’ve created opportunities,” Merricks said.

“We’ve come from behind to get points which shows really positive signs, so I am pleased with that. It’s important that we build on that and continue to be a threat in front of goal.

“The players’ application has been really good, they’re trying to take the things we’ve been working on in training into games.”

Amy has enjoyed the challenge of taking over the reins, but says the staff and players’ attitude has played a huge part in that.

Merricks's London City Lionesses press conference

“Change obviously brings uncertain feelings, people experience change differently. The staff and the players have been fantastic in their approach to everything; truly professional.

“We’re here to do a job, we want the team to do well and we’re focused on that. That’s really helped us. I’ve enjoyed the challenge personally, what’s made it easier is the way the staff and players have reacted to everything.

“I am focused on doing a good job in the interim, ensuring that the team is performing and that we’re competing and that we’re in a good place for whoever takes over.”
