Roberto De Zerbi watches on as Albion go down 2-1 to Aston Villa at the Amex.

Roberto De Zerbi was left frustrated after Albion signed off before the World Cup break with a 2-1 Amex defeat against Aston Villa.

Albion made the ideal start with Alexis Mac Allister scoring after 49 seconds but Danny Ings netted in either half to earn Villa their first away win in nine Premier League games.

The head coach said, “There was a lot of wasting time. I thought in the Premier League it didn’t happen like it does in other countries. It’s not a big problem to lose, but I would like to play 60 minutes, no?

“The referee had to control the game, it is not my work [to do] or my players or my fans. For this situation, so I was angry and frustrated.

Levi Colwill made an accomplished Premier League debut against Villa.

“We played well, we can play better 100% and we have to work more in the details, but we played a good game and didn’t deserve to lose. The players were focused only on the game.”

De Zerbi admitted the loss of Adam Lallana after just four minutes with a hamstring problem was a big setback.

“It was difficult to lose him, it was a crucial moment. after also losing [Adam] Webster and [Kaoru] Mitoma, who both had a [high] temperature. Mitoma was in a very brilliant moment in terms of scoring and quality of play. Webster too.”

In Webster’s absence, Levi Colwill made his Premier League debut and De Zerbi was pleased with the 19-year-old’s performance.

“Colwill played a fantastic game and I’m happy for Levi. He was ready to play and showed his qualities and his level," added De Zerbi. "Today on the pitch we had an 18-year-old [Julio] Enciso and a 19-year-old and for us that is very important.”
