Katie Robinson produced a player of the match performance against Chelsea.

Hope Powell hopes Katie Robinson’s player of the match performance against Chelsea is the first of many for the flying winger.

The Albion manager described Robinson’s performance against the champions in last weekend’s 2-0 defeat as her best yet and is hoping she can build on it when WSL action returns on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur at the Broadfield Stadium.

Powell said, “I thought she was one of the standout players for us on Sunday along with Kayleigh Green and it was her best performance for us.

“We sent Robbo out on loan to Charlton last season to get some more game time and I think that has done her the world of good.

“She is quite impatient, so we’ve had lots of conversations about her development and to be fair she’s really worked hard. She was out for a while two years ago with an ACL and has done the work to get to the level she’s at.

"She’s listening to the coaches, learning and trying to implement the things we’re asking her to do and when you’ve got her pace it can scare defenders and I think we saw that against Chelsea.”

Ellie Brazil recovered from an ACL injury during her time with Albion.

One player who will not be in the Spurs’ squad is former Albion midfielder Ellie Brazil, who is out for the rest of the season after rupturing her ACL in last weekend’s defeat to Manchester City.

Brazil made more than 50 WSL appearances for Albion before heading to London in the summer and was a popular member of the squad.

“She has been through this before with us in 2019 and I feel really sad for her,” said Powell. “She worked really hard to find her form which is probably why Tottenham came in for her. To do it to the other knee is really unlucky and I know the staff and players will reach out to wish her well and we all hope she makes a speedy recovery.”
