Adam Lallana has come on as a substitute in both Roberto De Zerbi's games in charge so far.

Roberto De Zerbi says he has already built up a strong relationship with Adam Lallana.

The former Liverpool midfielder stepped up to helping the coaching staff following the departure of Graham Potter, but is very much a key part of Roberto’s playing squad now.

"Maybe Adam is one of the players with who I have built one of the best relationships here. He has helped me a lot, including my staff.

“I think he can become a very good head coach but for now, he is still a very strong player and I believe I can count on him a lot."

The head coach is enjoying his new challenge in English football.

“The Premier League is a fantastic league. I enjoy it a lot, the atmosphere is fantastic and I am very proud of being a head coach here. I believe I can learn a lot and I can improve a lot, compared to when I arrived.

“From this moment, until the day I stay here, I will try to learn and improve myself, but of course to always give my ideas.”

De Zerbi now prepares for a quick turnaround in games, as his team face Brentford on Friday evening before welcoming Nottingham Forest to the Amex next Tuesday.

De Zerbi's Brentford press conference

“If you work in the Premier League, you have to know that all games can be very difficult. We could have won against Liverpool and Tottenham – we could have also lost them. You have to know that the Premier League is a very difficult competition and you have to be ready to fight every opponent.

“Brentford are a good team. We will have to suffer, they have a good style of play, second balls and long balls, but we can play our football and they will have to suffer as well with our skills and ability, players and our style of play.”
