Extended PL Highlights: Spurs 0 Albion 1

Having beaten Arsenal at the Emirates the previous weekend, Albion won at Tottenham a week later when Leandro Trossard’s late strike secured a 1-0 victory. The back-to-back wins were a part of Albion’s phenomenal end of season run that saw them finish ninth in the Premier League.

The Spurs player to watch

By Paul Hazlewood
Harry Kane has seven goals in eight Premier League appearances so far this campaign.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane became the first ever player to score 100 away goals in the Premier League in their defeat against Arsenal. Kane has scored five goals in his last seven Premier League games against Brighton, including three in four at the Amex Stadium.

Stats

Brighton have won two of their last three Premier League matches against Tottenham Hotspur (L1), one more than in their first seven games against them in the competition combined (W1 D1 L5).

Having won 2-0 away at Brighton and Hove Albion in March, Spurs are looking for consecutive top-flight wins away at the Seagulls for the first time since a run of three between 1980 and 1982.

After a run of four consecutive home league defeats in February/March, Brighton are unbeaten in their last seven at the Amex Stadium (W4 D3). They’re looking to win three consecutive home league games for the first time since November 2019, a run that included a 3-0 win over Spurs.

Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season ended with a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal last time out. They’ve not lost consecutive league games on the road since September 2021, which included a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.

Only Everton (7) have conceded fewer Premier League goals than Brighton (8) this season, while only Manchester City (5.6) and Arsenal (6.9) have a lower expected goals against total than the Seagulls (7.9).

Tottenham have faced 127 shots in their eight Premier League games so far this season – their average of 15.9 shots faced per game is their highest on record in a single campaign (since 2003-04).

No side has used fewer different players in the Premier League this season than Brighton (19), while the Seagulls have also made fewer changes to their starting XI than any other side this term (4).

This will be Roberto De Zerbi’s first home game in charge of Brighton. He faced Spurs boss Antonio Conte four times during his time in Serie A, but never ended on the winning side against him (D1 L3).

Leandro Trossard has scored five goals in seven Premier League games for Brighton this season, including a hat-trick at Liverpool last time out. Only in 2021-22 (8) has the Belgian scored more in a single Premier League campaign, while he’s looking to score in three consecutive games in the competition for the first time.
