David Weir took over from Dan Ashworth as technical director earlier this year.

Technical director David Weir says that the club’s succession planning means there has been a smooth transition between head coaches.

New head coach Roberto De Zerbi was able to confirm three members of his coaching staff on Friday when assistant coach Andrea Maldera and athletic coaches Vincenzo Teresa and Marcattilio Marcattilii were granted their work permits.

Nick Stanley continues as specialist set-piece coach, while Jack Stern remains assistant goalkeeping coach.

Weir said, “It’s been a very busy few days, but we’re delighted that Roberto and his staff have their work permits and can get down to work on the training ground with the players.

Bloom: We're excited about Roberto De Zerbi

“They have spent the last few days getting to know the club and the staff but they are looking forward to being on the training pitch preparing for the Liverpool game next Saturday, especially when our players report back from international duty next week.”

In addition, the club confirmed that Andrew Crofts is stepping up to become first-team coach after a spell as head coach prior to De Zerbi’s appointment on Sunday.

Shannon Ruth will step up as under-21s coach assisted by Gary Dicker, who will be his assistant having previously worked with the under-18s.

“I’m delighted for Crofty, Shannon and Gary,” said Weir. “They have worked hard in our development teams and I’m sure they will relish the opportunities their new roles give them. It’s been a very smooth handover in the last few days because of the succession planning we do and I’m sure our supporters are looking forward to watching Roberto’s team in action as much as I am.”
