Jensen Weir has three goals in eight appearances for Morecambe.

Jensen Weir bagged his third goal of the season on Saturday as his Morecambe side drew 2-2 with Bristol Rovers in League One.

The midfielder seems to be at the centre of the action for Derek Adams’s team since his arrival on a season-long loan in August, having been sent off in his first home game for the Shrimps.

“I got two yellow cards in the space of a minute against Stoke in the Carabao Cup, but one of them definitely wasn’t a foul. It wasn’t a great start to my time here.

“It was close to the away fans as well and they were singing ‘cheerio!’ I had to walk past our manager who was actually okay about it, but then you have sit by yourself in the dressing room.

The midfielder was sent off on his home debut for Morecambe, receiving two yellow cards against Stoke in the Carabao Cup.

“I was praying that Stoke didn’t score. We ended up winning on penalties so I was over the moon with that.”

The 20-year-old has started five of Morecambe’s seven league games and has chipped in with important goals against Oxford United and an unbelievable strike as they drew 2-2 at the Memorial Ground on Saturday.

“The first touch I had was perfect, I teed it up well and I knew I was going to shoot it that way and I hit it cleanly,” said Weir.

“It’s weird, I scored at Oxford in the league and then got another in the Papa Johns Trophy. I was speaking to a mate who I play golf with so we thought I should do a golf swing if I score.

Jensen spent last season on loan with Cambridge United, but his campaign was cut short by injury.

“When it went in [at Bristol Rovers] the home crowd were silent and our supporters were down at the other end so it was quiet and felt almost like it hadn’t gone in. I didn’t know what to do so I ran in a circle and did a little jump. I had to text my mate to say I’d forgotten to do the golf celebration!

“We need three points massively because we haven’t had a League win yet - we keep drawing. But it will come and it’s a long season.”

Elsewhere, Marc Leonard helped Northampton Town to a 3-1 win over Barrow, while Simon Adingra got a goal and an assist for Royale Union Saint Gilloise in a 3-1 away victory against Zulte Waregem.
