Kayleigh Green on the brink of World Cup play-offs

Albion striker hopes to help Wales to next stage tonight.

Kayleigh Green will be hoping to join two of her Albion team-mates by securing qualification for the World Cup play-offs tonight.

Green’s Wales take on Slovenia tonight knowing that a point with make sure of their play-off place and a crowd of more than 10,000 is expected at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The striker played in Friday’s 1-0 win over Greece, who had Albion’s Veatriki Sarri in their line-up, that took Wales to the brink of the play-offs.

Meanwhile in Dublin, Megan Connolly had a key role in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 victory against Finland that secured their play-off spot with a match to spare.

The Albion midfielder had to drop into the back three because of injuries but it was her free kick that led to Ireland’s goal early in the second half and sealed a narrow win.

Albion goalkeeper Meg Walsh was on the bench for Ireland, who complete their group stage matches in Slovakia tonight. Connolly is not available after picking up a rib injury against the Finns.

Norway’s 1-0 win over Belgium sealed their qualification to the World Cup finals, which take place in Australia and New Zealand next year, and Albion’s Elisabeth Terland played for 84 minutes. Norway complete their qualifiers against Albania in Oslo tonight.

Three Albion players helped England under-23s to a 2-1 win over Norway in a friendly. Katie Robinson played 90 minutes, Poppy Pattinson the first half and Jorja Fox for 83 minutes.
