Evan Ferguson's hat-trick was his first in an Albion shirt.

A first-half Evan Ferguson hat-trick set Albion on their way to their first Premier League 2 victory of the season, as they comfortably saw off Leicester City.

The Irishman’s treble put Albion in control after Tawanda Maswanhise had pulled one back to make 2-1.

Jack Spong then heaped on the misery for the Foxes late on as his smart free-kick put the result beyond doubt.

Leicester had a couple of early opportunities through Maswanhise and Wanya Marcal-Madivadua, but it was Ferguson who opened the scoring. Andrew Moran found the forward sprinting through on goal with a well-weighted pass and the striker calmly rolled it past Chituru Odunze. Ferguson needed treatment on his ankle in the aftermath of his goal, but Albion will be more than pleased he was able to play on.

The win was Andrew Crofts's team's first in Premier League 2 this season.

The 17-year-old had his second with 21 minutes played as he once again combined with Moran, this time the striker fired low from the right of the box and found the back of the net thanks to the bottom of the far post.

Maswanhise got one back five minutes later as he pinched possession with James Beadle on the edge of his box and was able to roll it into an empty net, but Albion restored their two-goal cushion just before the break.

Samy Chouchane picked out Ferguson in space, who turned and leathered the ball into the top left corner for his third of the afternoon. It was the best of his three goals and marked his first hat-trick in an Albion shirt.

That two-goal advantage proved to be too big an obstacle for the hosts to overcome and if anything Albion might rue not winning by a greater score-line despite Spong’s late free-kick.

Jack Spong's free-kick late on made it 4-1 to Albion.

Ed Turns nodded over from Spong’s corner when he should have scored just after the restart, before Ferguson’s effort from 25-yards was put behind for a corner by Odunze.

Spong’s free-kick from a similar distance was relatively comfortable for the Leicester keeper to deal with and Jack Hinshelwood put the ball over the crossbar from close range after he met Spong’s corner.

Albion’s captain would get his goal though, as he found the bottom right corner from a free-kick on the edge of the box.
