Graham Potter, Pascal Gross and Adam Webster celebrate at full-time.

Graham Potter saluted the contribution of ‘fantastic’ goal scorer Pascal Gross after Albion climbed to second in the Premier League after beating Leeds United 1-0 at the Amex.

The German scored his third of the season to reward a largely dominant Albion display that secured our third win in our first four games.

Potter said, “His performances have been fantastic, it’s certainly the best football he’s played since I came here and probably in his career. He’s does everything for us: he contributes in the build-up and in how we want to defend and he pops up with assists or goals.”

Gross broke the deadlock midway through the second half after Albion had missed earlier opportunities to score.

Graham Potter felt his side deserved their 1-0 win over Leeds.

“We had to fight to get the clean sheet and three points but I thought we deserved to win," added the head coach.

“In the first half we just lacked that bit in the final third, which is the most difficult bit in football. That can happen but we kept going, kept believing and it was a great finish from Pascal.

“Then we had to defend a 1-0 lead. You become a bit more edgy, but I thought we managed that final period of the game quite well.”

Another player to impress was Pervis Estupinan on his first Premier League start at left back.

“He defended their physical threats well and offered an attacking threat too with Leo Trossard," said Potter. "It’s his first start in the Premier League so it’s understandable that he would tire a little bit but overall I was really happy with him.”
