Julio Enciso's brilliant lob wasn't enough to secure Albion their first three points in Premier League 2 as Liverpool struck late to ensure there was a share of the spoils.
Andrew Crofts had a selection of first team players available to him, with Levi Colwill, Steven Alzate, Jeremy Sarmiento and Julio Enciso all starting against the Reds.
It was the visitors though who had the best chance of the first half. Jack Bearne was inches away from poking his team into the lead after six minutes, but he couldn’t quite stretch far enough to get on the end of Luke Chambers’s lovely low cross from the left.
Sarmiento’s afternoon came to an early end due to injury, but his replacement Cam Peupion will have been nearly as disappointed not to have put Albion in front midway through the first half. Jack Spong’s smart pass found the Australian with Liverpool’s highline exposed, but his effort from the right of the box flew agonisingly wide of the bottom left corner.
Levi Colwill headed over and Evan Ferguson scuffed wide, but overall it was a fairly quiet 45 minutes.
It took until the hour mark for the game to really come to life, as first James Furlong’s volley from Peupion’s cross was blocked, before Dominic Corness’s bending free-kick had to be tipped over by Tom McGill.
Peupion was again the architect as he burst into the box, getting the better of Chambers, but his fizzed low cross was just beyond the outstretched boot of Ferguson.
McGill had to be at his best to deny Jake Cain from close range, spreading himself well to keep out the forward's effort, before Albion finally had the breakthrough in the 86th minute.
New boys Colwill and Enciso combined, with the former finding the latter with a ball over the Liverpool defence, and Enciso nonchalantly lifted the ball over the oncoming Davies.
It was the first of three moments of late drama. Layton Stewart equalised just three minutes after his team had gone behind as he smartly tucked away from a cutback.
But the Reds' striker's afternoon ended on a sour note, as he was shown a second yellow card for a poor challenge on James Furlong.
