Despite the frustration of Saturday's goalless draw against Newcastle United, skipper Lewis Dunk believes Albion can aim high this season.

Saturday's 0-0 draw at the Amex followed our opening-day win over Manchester United to leave Albion sixth in the Premier League table at this early stage, after we finished last season in a club-record ninth spot.

"We have lost some good players in the last couple of years but we have shown the depth and quality in the squad we have with the young players coming through," said Dunk.

"Priority will always be safety, but we want to push on and believe we can do even better than ninth last season. We're all in it together and have the same vision, the team spirit is superb.

"The dynamic of the team has changed but we still work hard and prepare the same way we did in the Gaffer's first season."

March on Newcastle stalemate

Two goal-line clearances and a superlative display by Magpies' keeper Nick Pope denied Albion three points on Saturday, to Dunk's frustration.

"In the first half out of possession we stopped them doing what they wanted to do and they didn't create much. In the second half we still defended well but we were better on the ball and created chances - it just wasn't our day.

"You can't score every game but it's still a good thing that we're doing the right things to get opportunities to score. We proved last week against Manchester United that we have goals in the team and we've got good attacking players so we have no worries about that going forward."
