Danny Welbeck has scored 12 Premier League goals for Albion.

Graham Potter reckons Danny Welbeck is in the best shape of his Albion career.

The 31-year-old joined us in October 2020, but his stay has been interrupted by injury that has restricted him to 50 league appearances.

Danny, though, has enjoyed a full pre-season and won plaudits for his fine performance in the 2-1 win against his former club Manchester United last weekend.

“He’s in the best condition since I have been working with him,” Potter said. “He’s enjoying his football and he knows how important he is to the team. He’s a top player, a top person and he’s always supported the team even when he hasn’t been playing.

Potter's Newcastle press conference

“He has played his role fantastically well and is someone that everyone looks up to, so we’re delighted.

“I think he enjoys the responsibility and respect that he has. He mixes with everyone at the club and he wants to play, win and compete. But he’s very supportive if that’s not the case. He’s a great example for everyone.”

“He is as impressive off the pitch as he is on it so when you have got that then you realise that he is a valuable asset.

“He has had a lot of ups and downs in his career especially recently, so he is just enjoying the moment and enjoying his football. Long may that last.”
