Alex Cochrane is to join Hearts on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old defender spent last season on loan with the Scottish Premiership club, making 40 appearances and scoring three goals as Hearts reached the Scottish Cup final and qualified for Europe by finishing third.

Alex came through Albion’s academy pathway and made his professional debut in a League Cup tie against Aston Villa in 2019. He also had a loan spell with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise before heading to Scotland.

Albion technical director David Weir said, “Alex did very well with Hearts last season and this is a very good move for him after a successful loan spell.

“We wish him all the best for his future career and thank him for his hard work and professionalism during his time at Brighton.”
