Maisie Symonds says she will always remember her Goal of the Season winning strike against Leicester City.

The 19-year-old’s last minute free-kick secured a 1-0 win over the Foxes at the Amex, which prompted brilliant celebrations from the Albion team.

“I’ll always remember those celebrations,” Symonds said. “I remember the goal vividly, I knew I could pull it off and even if the keeper got a touch I knew she would only be able to push it back into a dangerous area. Fortunately it looped over her and got us a really important win.”

Symonds has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, making 16 appearances including her full debut in the 1-1 draw with Everton on the final day of the campaign.

“It’s been a great season for me. When I signed I was told that if I worked hard and showed my ability then I would get a chance and Hope [Powell] has delivered on that promise.

“The goal against Leicester was the personal highlight, but the team have built on what was a really good end to last season and showed that we can put in strong performances more consistently.

The midfielder made her full WSL debut in the 1-1 draw with Everton on the final day of the league campaign.

“Apart from the goal it’s been great to test myself in one of the best leagues in the world. I am still young and I’ve learned a lot.”

Megan Walsh picked up both the Players’ Player and the Supporters’ Player of the Season awards, which were fully deserved according to Symonds.

“Meg has been amazing this season,” the midfielder added. “She’s pulled off some really good saves and kept us in a lot of games. She doesn’t like the limelight, but she deserves the awards as she’s been brilliant.”
