Potter: Run-in won't define our season

Graham Potter acknowledges the Albion fans after the win over Spurs earlier this month.

Graham Potter wants his side to finish the season strongly but the head coach doesn’t believe what happens in the remaining four games will define Albion's campaign.

One more point would take Albion onto a new club Premier League record of 42 and their first opportunity to do that comes at Molineux this afternoon against Wolves. Albion then face Manchester United and West Ham at the Amex either side of the final away game against Leeds United.

“We’ve had a lot of successful, happy memories, but the more points you get between now and the end of the season makes everything better and that’s what we will try to do," said Potter. "Then we will sit down and analyse the season.

"We’ve got 41 points and that equals the most we’ve ever had, and we’ve got four games to try and beat that. The only way you can do it is to focus on the next match, we’ve got 12 points to compete for and we’ve got to get as close to that as possible.”

Albion face a Wolves side with the fourth best defensive record in the league. They won 1-0 at the Amex against a depleted Albion in December and Potter is a big fan of what Bruno Lage and his team have achieved this season.

“We had a tough game against them at home, we were suffering with Covid cases and one or two things, but I thought on the night they were really good," said Potter.

“There are only three teams who have conceded fewer goals, they’re hard to create chances against and to score against. That has given the foundation to the team to compete for a European spot. Bruno [Lage] has done a really good job, he has built on the things that were already there but at the same time added his own twist as well. They’ve had a really good season.”
