Stuart Storer has won the vote for Albion's Player of the Season for the 1996/97 campaign.

Albion fans have voted Stuart Storer as their player of the season for the 1996-97 campaign.

In that memorable season Albion saved their Football League status by drawing 1-1 at Hereford United on the final day.

A week earlier Storer’s goal sealed a vital 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers in the last game to be played at the Goldstone Ground.

No presentations were made at the end of the season, so we put that right as the club celebrated 25 years since that never-to-be-forgotten campaign.

Nearly 600 votes were polled with Storer receiving 177 votes. Second was Robbie Reinelt, who scored Albion’s second-half leveller at Edgar Street against Hereford United. Defender Kerry Mayo was third.

Several members of the 96-97 squad and other Albion legends were at a celebration dinner at the Amex on Friday to honour Steve Gritt, the manager who led Albion to survival that season.

Gritt and the team who played against Hereford will be presented to the Amex crowd on Sunday and be guests of honour for the Premier League match against Southampton.
