Enock Mwepu put in a man of the match performance against Arsenal.

Enock Mwepu says it’s been a difficult first season in an Albion shirt following his summer move from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

The Zambia international has had an interrupted campaign because of injury, but he has started Albion’s last three games – the wins at Arsenal and Spurs and the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

“This season hasn’t been easy for me, in and out of the team,” reflected Mwepu. “But the team have done so many things. We have had some setbacks here and there, but there are so many positives we can take.

“As a club we have a target of finishing in the top ten so we are trying by all means to really finish strongly. We have to keep that rhythm going.”

The 24-year-old’s run in the team came close to an abrupt end in the Tottenham game, when he narrowly avoided a second yellow card just before half-time.

“I think I was lucky not to get the red card in that moment so I think it was a good call. For me, they were not really hard challenges, but after I got a yellow card I made another challenge. It’s hard to tell but I would say I was lucky.

“It was really difficult to keep the ball with the quality City have, we tried to defend as a group and play compact.

“But their quality is massive and unfortunately they passed through us and we couldn’t stop them.”
