Hope Powell's team sit on 25 points, two short of their record tally of 27, which they achieved last season.

Hope Powell has said Albion’s recent run of performances have shown a good level of improvement from earlier on in the campaign.

Albion sit two points shy of their record WSL points tally (27) with three games to play, a position Powell is encouraged by.

“We have done relatively well so far this season. We had a real bad patch which we had last season as well. It’s not a place I or the players enjoy, but testimony to them, they pulled themselves out of that hole and have managed to go on a decent run which has put us sixth in the league, two points from our record tally with three games to go.

We’re still at a bit of a stage where we were with consistency. Going through the highs and the lows of it, performing well and then not performing well – we’ve got to iron that out.

“It feels quite nice at the moment, because we know the three games left gives us the opportunity to achieve something and show how far we have come.”

Powell’s team enjoyed five wins from their opening seven league fixtures, but a run of seven defeats out of eight from their following games saw them slip into mid-table.

They have regained their form in recent weeks though with consistent performances and despite a couple of defeats, the Albion head coach says there are a number of aspects to be pleased about.

“We’re still at a bit of a stage where we were with consistency. Going through the highs and the lows of it, performing well and then not performing well – we’ve got to iron that out.

“But the fact that we have been on a good run in terms of performances, even against Manchester United when we lost, we still performed quite well. Against Arsenal we lost, but in the second half we put in a good performance and these are arguably against teams that are up there with the best in the league.

“We want points on the board, but we have got to find the consistency in performances that allows us to get points on the board regularly.”
