Albion ace Enock Mwepu was thrilled to mark his return to the side with a goal, and said he thought before the game that he might score.

The Zambia midfielder struck a goal of the season contender to add to Leandro Trossard’s first-half strike as Graham Potter's side ended a run of seven games without a win by beating Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates.

Mwepu, 24, said, “We had a little joke in the dressing room before the game that I was going to score. I was delighted to take the chance, I hit it really well and it was wonderful to see it go into the net.”

“I am so glad, we needed the three points after six loses and a draw but I think we have shown that we have the right mentality in the group to can come to places like Arsenal and play like we did.

“We just want to continue in the final games like this, play well and win for the coach, who has shown a lot of confidence in us.”

Martin Odegaard pulled one back late on for the Gunners and Albion had to hold firm during six minutes of stoppage time before they could celebrate a second win from their last three trips to the Emirates.

“I almost wasn’t breathing!” said a relieved Mwepu. “I just wanted the game to end but we defended so well and it was just great to win the game and then celebrate in front of our fans.”
