Megan Walsh was praised by her manager after making her international debut.

The Albion keeper won her first Republic of Ireland cap in a 1-0 defeat against Russia in the Pinatar Cup in La Manga, Spain, on Saturday.

Walsh produced a string of fine saves and Ireland manager Vera Pauw believes she has a bright future at international level.

“We are very happy Megan joined Ireland,” said Pauw of the 27-year-old who qualifies for Ireland through her grandfather, who was born in Wexford. “She played well and has a huge future in front of her.”

Megan Walsh has helped Ireland reach the World Cup finals for the first time.

Albion teammate Megan Connolly was rested on Saturday after playing in last week’s 2-1 win over Poland but is likely to return to the team on Tuesday when Ireland play Wales in a third-place play-off.

Kayleigh Green, fresh from helping Albion beat Reading with two goals in their WSL meeting last Sunday, created a goal and won a penalty in Wales' 3-1 win over Scotland but the Welsh lost on penalties to Belgium after a goalless draw on Saturday, when Green scored their only spot-kick in a 3-1 shoot-out defeat.
