Danny Welbeck has made nine Premier League appearances so far this campaign.

Graham Potter has praised Danny Welbeck’s ‘massive’ contribution since he came to Albion as the striker prepares to face one of his former clubs today.

Welbeck has scored nine goals in 45 games since joining Albion in October 2020 and earlier this season clocked up his 250th Premier League appearance.

The 31-year-old spent the 2019/20 season with Watford where he scored twice in 28 appearances, including 18 starts.

Asked about his spell at Vicarage Road, Potter said, “At Watford we were aware of him and our recruitment department were aware of his qualities he has.

The striker has had a full week of training according to Graham Potter.

“At the time we felt it was important to add to that area of the pitch. We were looking for particular attributes and I think he brought all that. He’s an experienced guy, a good person on and off the pitch, with Premier League quality.

“You look at his career and CV - Manchester United, Arsenal and England; you don’t play that level if you haven’t got the quality and he has.

“We know the challenge which is to help him be on the pitch as much as he can and enjoy his football, but he’s contributed to what we’ve done here in a massive way and we’re happy with him.”

Welbeck came off the bench in last Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Spurs in the Emirates FA Cup after recovering from illness.

Potter added, “He was not fit to start at Tottenham as he’d only had a couple of days training after being ill. He has had another week of training and looked good.”
