Neal Maupay was delighted to help Albion secure a 'big win' against his former club.

The French striker scored his seventh of the season and netted for the third successive game in the 2-0 Boxing Day victory over Brentford at the Amex.

"It's such a big win and we're happy, I thought it was a good performance from the team," said Maupay.

"Every game in the Premier League is tough, and I respect Brentford. They pushed us a lot but we believed in ourselves and I think the result and performance shows we're all pushing in the same direction."

Maupay found the top corner of the goal in front of the visiting fans, but he kept his celebrations low key and was happy to make a a significant contribution to an important victory.

"I didn't want to celebrate [in front of them] because Brentford gave me my chance in England and I respect everything they did for me, they are a great club.

"I know there has been some criticism of us recently but we don't listen to the narrative. Personally, if the fans and my team-mates are happy with what I bring, as well as goals, to the team on the pitch I am happy.

"It was a crucial win for us, there was some pressure before the game. It's a good night but it's a quick turnaround for us with Chelsea on Wednesday and that is what we're focusing on now."
