Hope Powell's team are next in action on Sunday, when they face Reading.

Hope Powell felt her team weren't 'anywhere near their best' after suffering a 1-0 defeat to London City Lionesses in the Continental Cup.

Karin Muya scored the only goal of the game early in the second half, which means Albion will have to wait until they have played the final group game – against West Ham – to know if they will progress in the competition.

Powell said, “A massive credit to London City – I thought they played well. We weren’t anywhere near our best, the only positive was the fact there was the opportunity for some of the players who have been out injured to get some minutes, as well as a couple of under-21 players. Lea Cordier did well for her first full 90 minutes in the first team.

“In terms of how we played, we created plenty of chances but couldn’t put them away.

“The longer you go without getting a goal, the more you start to think it’s not going to be your day. But the effort was there, just not the application. By the standards we’ve set ourselves we’re quite disappointed.

“Our attention now turns to the league and if we want to pick up points against Reading on Sunday, we’re going to have to improve from this evening.”
