Albion's progress in the Continental Cup will be decided in their final group game after falling to a narrow defeat against London City Lionesses.

Megan Walsh pulled off an outstanding save to deny Annie Rossiter after eight minutes when through on goal – the striker’s effort was bound for the bottom right corner, but the keeper’s outstretched leg deflected it behind for a corner.

Albion should’ve been in front just a few minutes later as Katie Robinson’s low ball from the right found Kayleigh Green unmarked six-yards out, however the Wales international had her hands on her head after watching her effort cannon back off the crossbar and away from danger.

Kayleigh Green smashed an effort from close range against the crossbar early on.

Le Tissier looked to take advantage as space opened up in front of her in the 35th minute, but her drive from the edge of the box was well saved by Charlotte Fleming and Emily Simpkins’ follow up was blocked on the line.

Albion found themselves behind just six minutes after the restart when Rossiter played the lively Karin Muya in and she calmly rolled the ball past Walsh.

Victoria Williams went close to an immediate response when she nodded half-time substitute Inessa Kaagman’s corner towards goal but Fleming clawed the ball off the line to keep her team in front.

Karin Muya tucked home the only goal of the game.

The visitors had Carly Girasoli to thank for an exceptional piece of defending that denied Albion what looked a certain equaliser. A poor back pass to Fleming was intercepted by Ellie Brazil who teed up Maisie Symonds to lob home, but Girasoli read the danger and acrobatically cleared the ball from two-yards out.

Megan Connolly headed over from Symonds' cross late on as they pushed for a leveller, but defeat for Albion means that they'll have to wait until mid-December when the play West Ham to know if they'll progress to the knockout stages.

Albion: Walsh, Gibbons, Le Tissier (Kaagman 46), Bance (Whelan 46), Green (Koivisto 46), Brazil, Simpkins (Lee 81), Williams, Robinson (Connolly 65), Symonds, Cordier.
