Graham Potter says Albion can take a lot of heart from their second half performance against Manchester City.

Graham Potter said he was proud of his side's second-half performance against Manchester City but had no complaints about the result.

The champions raced into a 3-0 lead after 32 minutes and eventually won 4-1 at the Amex, with substitute Alexis Mac Allister getting Albion’s goal from the penalty spot with ten minutes left.

Potter said, “I am so proud of the players’ performance in the second half. We were playing against the champions who deserved to win, but we gave everything and showed spirit and quality. Of course we’re disappointed to lose, but we have to say Manchester City were better.

“When the scoreline goes against you it can be difficult and we suffered in the first half. We made a couple of errors that led to goals and the 3-0 scoreline wasn’t a nice one. But credit to the players in the way they responded, they didn’t feel sorry for themselves and wanted to show more quality than the first half which they did.

Jakub Moder was a good attacking threat in the second half.

“In the second half up until the 85th minute we were very good and then ran out of steam which you can understand from the amount of effort that they put in.

“But we take something from the game in terms of our performance. Clearly we’re not competing with Manchester City in the table, all we can do is accept they were the better team and look at our performance as we’ve got an awful lot to be proud of.”

Potter doesn’t think only their second Premier League defeat of the season will have an adverse effect on his squad.

“The confidence isn’t dented at all,” he added. “I can go through the whole team, but I’ve got nothing but satisfaction in each of the players’ performances.”
