Man City team news: Webster could play against Cityzens

Albion welcome the Premier League champions on Saturday.

Adam Webster has been back in training this week ahead of Saturday's match against Manchester City.

Albion will look to extend their five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League when they welcome Manchester City to the Amex on Saturday, kick-off 5.30pm.

City were defeated on their last visit to the south coast in May, when Dan Burn’s first league goal for Albion secured a 3-2 victory after Albion trailed 2-0 down at one stage.

Emulating that win would move fourth-placed Albion above Pep Guardiola’s team, but Graham Potter’s men will be under no illusion as to the size of that task.

An opening day defeat to Tottenham is the only league loss City have suffered this season, with five wins in their seven Premier League games since.

A 5-1 victory over Bruges in the Champions League on Tuesday followed a 2-0 victory over Burnley last weekend. City have plenty of momentum behind them, but Albion will be confident in their own form.

Albion have kept four clean sheets in their opening eight Premier League matches this campaign.

Albion have gone five consecutive matches without defeat for the third time since their promotion to the top-tier in 2017 – their best run is six during January and February this year.

This is comfortably Albion’s best start to a Premier League campaign and with just three goals conceded in those five games, captain Lewis Dunk will be hoping his defence can keep a third consecutive clean sheet against a team who have averaged two goals a game.

Team news

Graham Potter said ahead of the game, "Adam Webster's been training this week, he's had a good week and there's an outside chance he'll be available.

"Danny [Welbeck] and Steven [Alzate] are still obviously away, but everyone else is available for selection.

"Tariq [Lamptey] responded really well [from his appearance against Norwich]. He was excited to be on the pitch, he enjoyed it. He's got a lot of work to do, we just need to keep helping him get back to the Tariq Lamptey we all know."

PL Highlights: Albion 3 Man City 2

Albion launched their 2021/22 home kit ahead of kick-off against Manchester City back in May, but Ilkay Gundogan’s goal after two minutes cooled early excitement about the new strip.

Joao Cancelo’s red card eight minutes later gave Albion hope, but Phil Foden’s strike early in the second half looked as if it had killed off any hopes of a fightback.

Leo Trossard’s emphatic finish brought the game to life and goals from Adam Webster and Dan Burn sent the crowd of 8000 - Albion's highest since February 2020 because of Covid restrictions - into raptures,  rounding off the Amex campaign with arguably Albion’s greatest victory as a Premier League club.

Manchester City player to watch

Jack Grealish left Aston Villa in the summer in a £100 million move to Manchester City.

Jack Grealish left his boyhood club Aston Villa in a £100 million move to City in the summer, and the midfielder has quickly become a star under Pep Guardiola with two goals and two assists in Premier League and Champions League outings so far by the England international.

Grealish wears the no.10 shirt following the departure of club legend Sergio Aguero but the 26-year-old looks to be thriving under the responsibility.
