Hope Powell believes Albion’s second-half display against Chelsea on Saturday shows her side are moving in the right direction.
Trailing 2-0 at the break to the champions, spirited Albion pulled one back through Danielle Carter and it needed a late goal by substitute Beth England to make sure of a 3-1 win for Chelsea.
It was a second successive WSL defeat in the space of six days, although Albion did progress to the semi-finals of the FA Cup during a hectic spell of games.

“Obviously we were disappointed to lose the game and it will be interesting to look back at the game and identify the areas where we need to improve,” said Powell.
“We weren’t at our best in the first half, but we got a goal back and I thought we rattled them. In the end they had just too much but I was really encouraged, especially with the second half.
“It’s been a tough week physically, with three games in six days. We’ve got a few niggles and Geummin Lee wasn’t available because she was a close contact of someone with Covid, so we couldn’t rotate as much as I would have liked.

“But going forward I think there are lots of positives and importantly the girls know areas where they need to improve and work on. And we now have a fantastic environment at the new training ground to help us do that.”
Albion return to WSL action next Sunday when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at the People’s Pension Stadium, kick off 2pm. To book your tickets click here.
