The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) has named Albion in the Community (AITC) as a finalist in their annual Health & Wellbeing Awards.

The charity's Brighter Outlook programme, which is funded by NHS Brighton and Hove and East Sussex Clinical Commissioning Groups,  was shortlisted for its work providing free physical activity to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer to help them get more active and improve their health before, during and after treatment.

Regarding the nomination, AITC's Head of Community Programmes Paul Williams shared his delight.

“Everybody at AITC is thrilled to be shortlisted for the RSPH Health & Wellbeing Awards,” he said. “It’s testament to the expertise and dedication of our delivery team and the commitment and courage of hundreds of local people living with cancer that we support to get active and live as well as possible.”

The winners of the prestigious award will be revealed at the RSPH Awards, which will take place on 21 October.

AITC’s Brighter Outlook is a cost-free programme which offers personalised physical activity and healthy lifestyle support for people who are at different stages of their cancer journey.

Rosie Sadler, who is AITC’s Cancer Activity Project Co-ordinator, explained how the charity helps.

“Cancer affects people in so many ways; physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, financially. Keeping active, eating healthily, and looking after your wellbeing can help anyone diagnosed with cancer to prepare for and cope better with treatments, and help them to recover and live well throughout and beyond cancer.

“We believe that everyone should have access to this type of support no matter what their background or situation. AITC offers free specialist support, and our expert coaches ensure the programme is tailored to each individual, making it accessible to all.”

The Brighter Outlook programme offers a range of physical activity classes which take place at locations across Brighton and virtually over Zoom for participants living outside of Brighton and for those who prefer to exercise in the comfort of their own home.
