On Friday 9 July, local women are being invited to take part in various football themed activities at the Kickstart Festival, which encourages women over 16 to exercise in a fun and friendly environment.

The event will be taking place nearly a year from when the UEFA Women's Euros 2022 come to the city of Brighton & Hove.

Albion in the Community, alongside the Sussex FA, Brighton & Hove City Council and Freedom Leisure will be co-hosting the event as part of plans to create a legacy from the Women’s Euros tournament.

Across a 90-minute session, women with limited experience of football can try their hand at small-sided games as well as walking football.

The festival takes place on 9th June.

Additionally, a soccercise session will be available, which is a fun-filled workout accompanied with a live DJ.

“The Kickstart Festival is the perfect opportunity to come and try out something new and break down some barriers,” AITC’s Women’s Football Recreational Officer Justine Thomson explained.

“I really want to encourage women who have no football experience at all to come down and try our fun soccercise workout and experience the different types of football that provide a more social, fun format that they may feel more comfortable with.

“Women can often feel that football isn’t a space for them, but my hope is that this event will show that the sport can be used as a great tool to get yourself out of the house and active, whether you want to kick a ball or not.

“You can come alone or bring a friend, relative or work colleague who you think might be up for a fun evening or activity.”

This event is completely free and will be taking place at Stanley Deason Leisure Centre in Brighton, with two sessions available at 6pm and 7:30pm.
