The lowdown: While Albion were undone by a controversial VAR decision, this fixture was all about the fans – back at the Amex for the first time in the Premier League since February.
Albion 1 Southampton 2
Albion scorer: Gross 26 pen
Southampton scorers: Vestergaard 45, Ings 81 pen
While numbers were limited to 2,000 they still made a great noise and got behind the side from start to finish. Albion took the lead through Pascal Gross’s penalty, after James Ward-Prowse had handled, but the visitors equalised through Jannik Vestergaard’s powerful header just before the break.

Saints won the game from the penalty spot when Solly March was adjudged to have brought down Kyle Walker-Peters, with referee David Coote initially blowing for a free-kick.
Graham Potter said, “Their penalty didn't seem so clear and obvious. It was great to have our fans back in the stadium though. We missed them and the players really appreciated their backing.”
Solly March said, “The result was frustrating, especially the way we lost. It was great to have the fans back as it had been a long time without them and the players really got a lift when we walked out of the tunnel.”
