Pascal Gross put Albion in front smartly from the penalty spot.

Pascal Gross says Albion are aiming to beat last season's record points tally in the final four games of the season.

The German's first-half penalty helped his team to a 2-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday which lifted them ten points clear of the Premier League relegation zone. It was their seventh clean sheet at the Amex, only Manchester City and Chelsea have had more shut-outs at home.

Albion head to Wolves next Sunday before home games against West Ham (May 15) and Manchester City. They finish the season at Arsenal (May 23) and would need to take five points from those four matches to beat last season's total of 41 points.

“It feels like a really big three points and we deserved it the way we played,” said Gross. After last week losing to Sheffield United we were disappointed, but we bounced back with a good performance.

“Looking at the table, a little bit of pressure has been released. It's not done yet but three points at this stage of the season is a big step forward.

“We want to beat the points tally we got last season and that is the aim we are talking about as a squad from the last four games.”

Danny Welbeck clinched the win with a brilliantly-taken goal which Gross described as 'different class'.

“It was incredible. After he scored I told him it was different class. Danny had a tough period with injuries, but he has a had a run of games and he has fantastic quality that he shows every day in training. It’s good to play with him.

“He has brought a lot to the team. He’s a great guy around the squad and he has massive quality that rubs off on other players.”
