Graham Potter lauded his side's performance in their 2-0 win over Leeds.

Graham Potter hailed the 'big win' his side secured against Leeds United as Albion took a huge step towards securing Premier League status.

Pascal Gross' first half penalty gave Albion a platform on which to build, before Danny Welbeck's fine strike with ten minutes to go was the cherry on top of a strong performance by the home side.

“It's a big win for us after a disappointing result last weekend,” Potter said. “We've still got 12 points that we could possibly earn but we're delighted with today because it's was a great performance against a side that asks a lot of questions of you. We were worthy of the win.

“We've proven that we can take points against all the teams in this league apart from Manchester United and Manchester City, so we had belief in ourselves.

Danny Welbeck has five goals to his name this season.

“Our performances have consistently been strong, it's only been three or four games where we haven't been ourselves. The margins are so small in this league – we've had times where we've been 1-0 up and needed a second, but haven't been able to get it and we end up drawing so it was good to get that today.

Potter puts the quality of the display against Leeds down to hard work.

“When you come up against Leeds there’s a certain intensity that you have to match. We've been disciplined, we've had a way to attack and defend and you need a bit of luck.

“I wouldn't say we were comfortable because at 1-0 it felt like we needed a second goal, but I felt we were in control of things. That's not easy to do against a team that can attack so well.”

Welbeck's magnificent turn and finish rightly drew plenty of plaudits, with his head coach keen to highlight on other parts of the striker's game that he’s been impressed with.

“For us, Danny's return of goals-per-minute is really good. The challenge is helping him enjoy his football in a role that suits him. You could see the quality there, it's a great turn and finish and we know Danny is capable of that.

“He's been really important for us on and off the pitch. He brings a real personality and character. I am delighted for him that he's contributed a goal and to us getting three points.”
