David joined Albion in January 2012 as head of finance, having previously served at Southampton and Plymouth Argyle, and joined the club’s board of directors as finance director in March of that year.

Chairman Tony Bloom paid tribute to his contribution to the Albion over the past decade, saying, “David has overseen the club’s finances with great professionalism and expertise, during a period of incredible growth.

“He has been a superb colleague as a fellow director on the board and is someone we will all miss – and he will always be welcome here at the club.”

David is also a member of Albion’s executive committee, the group responsible for the day-to-day running of the club.

Deputy chairman and chief executive Paul Barber added, “David will be missed around the office by all of us. He is incredibly popular, loyal, and has done a very good job for our club over many years.

“As a member of the women’s board and a trustee for Albion in the Community, David has been a great supporter of our women’s team and the brilliant ongoing work we do in the community.

“David has also been hugely supportive to me, professionally and personally, and I will miss him in and around the office on a daily basis.

“I know David is looking forward to his retirement, and in particular enjoying more time with his family, including new grandchildren, and to indulge his love of golf!”

David said, “It has been an amazing nine-and-a-half years, so many highs and a few lows, but overall some great memories.

“We had a few near misses, before the amazing day at the Amex when we beat Wigan in 2017, and then the first Premier League game against Manchester City and the first win over West Bromwich Albion. Those are moments I will always cherish.

“I am hugely grateful to Tony and the board to come and work at such a brilliant football club, and over that period of time the staff have also been superb. I have met and worked with so many good people and made a lot of great friends at the club.

“It has been a pleasure working alongside everyone and the club is so well run and in such good hands, I am looking forward to watching the club and team flourish in the seasons to come.

“It has been an amazing chapter in my life, but now it is time for the next one and I am looking forward to spending some more time at home with the family.”

In a career spanning 40 years, David worked across a variety of industries, before spending 12 years at Southampton and a short spell with Plymouth, ahead of his move to the Albion.

He is married with three children and three grandchildren, is a keen sportsman, and regularly plays golf and badminton.

The club has already begun its search for David’s successor, and aims to have a new finance director in place by the end of July.
