Internationals: Who's going where?

Albion players start their World Cup qualifying campaign this week.

The road to the 2022 World Cup starts this week with several Albion players joining up with their respective international teams ahead of a busy ten days.

Robert Sanchez could be in line to make his Spain debut after being called up the senior squad for the first time by head coach Luis Enrique.

The 23-year-old could make his debut in one of the following matches:

  • Greece (H), Thursday 25th March, 7.45pm
  • Georgia (A), Sunday 28th March, 5pm
  • Kosovo (H) Wednesday 31st March, 7.45pm

After making his full Premier League debut in the 3-0 win over Newcastle United, Jakub Moder has been called up to international duty with Poland alongside Albion teammate Michal Karbownik. Both made their senior debuts last year and will look to add to their haul of caps when they face:

  • Hungary (A), Thursday 25th March, 7.45pm
  • Andorra (H), Sunday 28th March, 7.45pm
  • England (A), Wednesday 31st March, 7.45pm

Aaron Connolly has been named in the latest Republic of Ireland squad, alongside on-loan midfielder Jayson Molumby (Preston North End) and defender Shane Duffy (Celtic), and will be hoping to score his first goals for his country. Ireland take on:

  • Serbia (A), Wednesday 24th March, 8.45pm
  • Luxembourg (H), Saturday 27th March, 7.45pm
  • Qatar (A), Tuesday 30th March, 8.45pm

Roberto Martinez has included Leandro Trossard in his Belgium squad and the 26-year-old couldn’t be joining the Red Devils in better form, having scored in his last two Premier League outings.

  • Wales (H), Wednesday 24th March, 7.45pm
  • Czech Republic (A), Saturday 27th March, 7.45pm
  • Belarus (A), Tuesday 30th March, 7.45pm

A regular in the Albion team since his summer arrival from Ajax, Joel Veltman heads off on international duty in sparkling form, and could add to his 27 international caps for the Netherlands in their games against:

  • Turkey (A), Wednesday 24th March, 8pm
  • Netherlands (H), Saturday 27th March, 6pm
  • Gibraltar (A), Tuesday 30th March, 8.45pm

Alireza Jahanbakhsh has just the one friendly to look forward to with Iran, as they take on Syria next Tuesday.

Haydon Roberts – who is currently on a season-long loan at Rochdale – has been called up for a training camp with England Under-19s, while Ben Wilson will also enjoy a training camp, as he joins up with Northern Ireland Under-19s.

Andi Zeqiri has three UEFA Euro under-21 matches to look forward to with Switzerland who face England, Croatia and Portugal, while defender Lars Dendoncker has received a call-up to the Belgium Under-21s for two friendlies against France.
