Robert Sanchez has the full backing of his manager.

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has the '100 per cent' support of his boss as Albion head into Sunday's south coast showdown with Southampton at St Mary's.

The Spanish stopper's error last Saturday led to Leicester snatching a 2-1 win at the Amex but head coach Graham Potter says he is a 'fantastic' goalkeeper and is confident he will bounce back.

Asked if Sanchez can handle the pressure of the relegation battle, Potter said: “100 per cent. He's a fantastic young goalkeeper. The one thing he lacks is games, the mistake he made everybody has made and will make.

“Since Rob came into the team we have seen his quality and what he brings. Mistakes are part of football. It's how you deal with them and react to them, that’s the defining thing. That’s what he’s done this week and he gets our full support.

Potter's Southampton press conference

“The up-side for him is we have given him the responsibility to show he can come through these things and when he does he will be better for it and we will be a better team.”

Potter has also singled out the contribution striker Danny Welbeck can make at the other end of the pitch in the closing weeks of the campaign.

He's got an important role to play,” said Potter. “He's disappointed because he has missed some games, but he's back and he’s pushing. We've had to be careful in terms of making sure he gets the right amount of training and minutes but he's going to be an important player for us during the rest of the season.”
