Joel Veltman's strike against Crystal Palace was his first goal since April 2019.

Joel Veltman believes Albion have to start making the most of their dominance in games.

Despite peppering the Crystal Palace goal on Monday, Albion only had one goal to show for their persistent efforts as they went down 2-1.

“They had only a few touches in our box, but they scored twice. We had 25 shots, but only one goal to show for it and that was the difference.

“We had a lot of chances, maybe not clear-cut, but when we were in good areas their defenders blocked the shots well or the keeper made the save.

“We were looking for the second goal and in the second half we did a great job. We didn't kill the game off though and we were punished.”

Veltman's Palace reaction

The overriding feeling for the Netherlands international was disappointment, despite firing in his first Albion goal and his first since April 2019 when he netted for Ajax against Willem II in the Dutch League.

“It's my first goal so I get some positivity from that, but as a group we were more disappointed in the dressing room than anything and personally I would rather not score and get the three points instead of scoring and not winning.

“But we have an opportunity to put things right on Saturday at West Bromwich Albion and it's an important game.

“Because of the defeat to Crystal Palace we're closer to the bottom three than we would want and we have to react.”
