Hughton: I Can Rely On A Strong Squad

By Alex Stedman • 20 March 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton says he’s confident he has the players at his disposal to handle the side’s busy upcoming schedule.

The Seagulls face seven matches in 25 days, starting with the visit of Southampton to the Amex Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday 30th March, and the Albion boss believes his team has more strength in depth than last season to be able to cope with the final stages of the campaign.

He said, "I think we are a stronger squad than we were last season and we will need that, because there are a lot of games in a short period of time.

"We would have been used to that in the Championship, but we have more players now than at any other stage that haven't played in the Championship – so we'll need everybody available.

"We will need the squad and as many fit and up-to-speed players as possible.”

Sunday’s contest against Millwall at The Den saw the Seagulls advance to the final four of the Emirates FA Cup for the first time in 36 years to set up a semi-final date with Manchester City at Wembley Stadium next month.

They did so without the duo of Pascal Gross and Florin Andone, as well as the suspended Yves Bissouma, and Hughton looked at when he expects to have them back in the fold ahead of the busy period that lies ahead.

"At this moment it's only Pascal Gross and Florin Andone who are out injured, and both of them have a chance for Southampton.

"The good thing, particularly with the cup run, is the players that haven't featured so much have at least had games.

"Leon Balogun, for example, is going away on international duty with Nigeria and we're hoping he plays both matches."
