Fixture Focus: The New Faces

By James Hilsum • 17 June 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion’s fixtures for the 2019/20 Premier League season were confirmed on Thursday morning, and below is a look at when Graham Potter’s side face the newly-promoted trio of Aston Villa, Norwich City and Sheffield United.

Albion's first meeting with one the league’s newcomers will be away at Villa on 19th October.

The Seagulls last went to Villa Park on the final day of the 2016/17 Championship season needing a win to guarantee the title. Despite Glenn Murray breaking the deadlock from the penalty spot, Jack Grealish scored a second-half equaliser, meaning the Seagulls had to settle for second spot.

Up next is the visit of Norwich City to the Amex on 2nd November. It will be the Canaries’ first visit to the south coast since Glenn Murray’s hat-trick and a goal each from Lewis Dunk and Anthony Knockaert secured the Seagulls a memorable 5-0 win.

Sheffield United are due to make their first-ever visit to the Amex on 21st December, in what will be the first meeting between the two sides in almost 14 years, when the Blades came out on top winning a Championship fixture 3-1 back in January 2006.

Aston Villa then head south as we head into January for the first reverse match against one of the league's newcomers, with the game against Dean Smith’s side scheduled for the 20th.

Murray also found the net the last time Villa visited the Amex, when the two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. The Seagulls frontman cancelled out Nathan Baker’s opener back in November 2016, as Albion would go on to secure promotion to the Premier League.

The second reverse fixture against one of the newly-promoted sides takes place at Bramall Lane the following month on 22nd February, before a trip to Carrow Road on 11th April concludes Albion’s games against the division’s newcomers.
