Duffy The Hero In Denmark

07 June 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Shane Duffy was the hero for the Republic of Ireland after his 85th minute equaliser secured a 1-1 draw against Denmark.

Duffy headed home from Alan Judge’s free-kick to cancel out Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s 76th-minute opener for the hosts.

The result leaves Mick McCarthy’s side with seven points from their opening three Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Elsewhere, Beram Kayal claimed an assist in Israel’s 3-0 victory over Latvia in Group G of European qualifying, as Eran Zahavi scored a hat-trick.

The Albion midfielder set up Zahavi’s second goal and featured for 73 minutes in the Euro 2020 qualifier, to conclude a fine night for the Albion duo.

The focus now turns to Davy Propper and the Netherlands on Sunday, when they face Portugal in the UEFA Nations League Final.

Under-23 duo Aaron Connolly and Jayson Molumby will also be targeting a victory for the Republic of Ireland under-21s on Sunday, when they face Bahrain in the Toulon Tournament.
