New Brighton & Hove Albion defender Matilde Skovsen explained that she is fulfilling a dream by moving to England, and cannot wait to play in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The 20-year-old completed a move from Danish Elitedivisionen side VSK Aarhus, and admitted that the chance to move to the club was too good to turn down.

She said, “It’s amazing here, everybody has been so welcoming and I’m so happy to sign for this club. Once my agent told me that Brighton had given me this offer, I couldn’t say no.

“I’ve always dreamt about playing in the Women’s Super League and the city is beautiful too. England has always been my dream destination.

“I’ve been here for a few days now after arriving on Tuesday night, and have seen both the stadium and training ground.

“The facilities here are absolutely incredible.”

Skovsen spoke about her attributes as a player and what she is expecting from competing in the Women’s Super League.

“I mainly play as a right back, and I’m someone that’s very good at one-v-ones. I am a fast player that likes to get forward too.

“I am expecting the girls that I’m playing against to be tougher, faster and smarter with the ball as well. The overall quality will be so much better.

“Hope Powell is also someone that’s a very well-known coach that’s very knowledgeable about football, and I can’t wait to start working with her.”

The defender spoke about her decision to leave Denmark, but feels it was the right call in order to take her career to the next level.

“It was very difficult for me to leave Denmark and I felt quite sad about it afterwards, but this has always been my dream.

“The standard of football is not as high there compared to England, and now my focus is on getting started with Brighton.”
