Albion Trio Set For Afcon Action

By Alex Stedman • 06 July 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion trio Leon Balogun, Gaetan Bong and Percy Tau could all feature for their respective countries tonight as the knockout stages of AFCON 2019 continue.

Balogun and Nigeria come up against Bong’s Cameroon side in Alexandria at 5pm, before Tau and South Africa face Egypt three hours later in Cairo.

The Super Eagles advanced to the last 16 stage after 1-0 wins over Burundi and Guinea respectively, followed by a 2-0 loss to Madagascar in their final group contest.

Cameroon went through their group stage campaign undefeated, beating Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in their opening game before back-to-back 0-0 draws with Ghana and Benin.

South Africa and Tau advanced to the current stage of the competition having finished third in their group, and sealing a passage by being one of the best performing sides who achieved that group place finish.

Tau picked up the man-of-the-match award during last Friday night’s 1-0 win over Namibia, a game which came in-between defeats to Ivory Coast and most recently, Morocco on Monday.

Supporters can watch both of tonight’s games on Eurosport 2.
