Albion Sign Dutch International

By Jake Ketley • 01 July 2019

Brighton & Hove Albion are pleased to confirm the signing of Netherlands international Danique Kerkdijk on a one-year contract.

The 23-year-old centre back joins from FA Women’s Super League rivals Bristol City, where she spent two seasons following her transfer from FC Twente in her native country.

Last season, the defender helped the Vixens to a sixth-place finish in the WSL, appearing in 19 of 20 league matches, scoring two goals.

During her time in the Netherlands, Kerkdijk was part of the FC Twente team that secured three titles including one Eredevisie, a BeNe League title and the 2014/15 KNVB Cup.

Manager Hope Powell said, “We are pleased to welcome a player of Danique’s calibre to the club.

“She has good knowledge of the WSL having spent the past two years with Bristol City, and she provides the squad with invaluable international experience as we look to build ahead of next season.”

Kerkdijk is currently away with her national team at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France and has been an unused substitute in their run to the semi-finals.

Season tickets are available to purchase for the 2019/20 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season, priced at £30 for adults and £10 for under-18s.
