Brighton & Hove Albion duo Leon Balogun and Percy Tau look set to meet in the AFCON 2019 quarter-finals when Nigeria face South Africa in Cairo tonight.
Balogun and the Super Eagles defeated Gaetan Bong’s Cameroon 3-2 on Saturday evening to seal a place in the last eight.
Nigeria advanced to the last 16 stage after 1-0 wins over Burundi and Guinea respectively, followed by a 2-0 loss to Madagascar in their final group contest.
South Africa and Tau advanced to the current stage of the competition by beating Egypt 1-0 on Saturday.
They sealed their passage to the knockout stages by being one of the best-performing third-placed sides.
Tau picked up the man-of-the-match award during a 1-0 win over Namibia during the group stage, a game which came in between defeats to Ivory Coast and Morocco.
