Powell: We Showed Spirit And Fight

Brighton & Hove Albion women’s first-team manager praised the resilience of her players after claiming a hard-fought point against Everton at The People’s Pension Stadium.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, Albion ended a hectic week of games with a goalless draw, and Powell admits that fatigue may have played a part in today’s game.

She said, “I thought we were quite leggy, as it’s been quite a tough seven days. Three games in a week is quite tough, and the one against Man City really took it out of some players.

“It was really tough, and we were nowhere near how we can perform, but we battled and managed to keep a point and keep a clean sheet.

“It wasn’t pretty, but we showed a lot of spirit and fight. We worked very hard and the players are very tired. I am pleased with a point.”

The Seagulls boss assessed the situation towards the bottom of the FA Women’s Super League, and stressed the importance of getting points against teams in and around them in the table.

“We are where we are, and we’ve got to deal with that. Yeovil are a decent team and score goals, Liverpool have hit a bit of a slide after starting well.

“Some of their players are coming back from injury, but we want to rely on ourselves to keep us in the league.

“If we can get points in these games against the likes of Everton, Liverpool and Yeovil, then hopefully that will be enough to keep us in this league.”
