New Brighton & Hove Albion striker Jan Mlakar admits he is still in disbelief after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with the club earlier today.
The 20-year-old was blown away by the facilities and overall set up at the club, and explained how the move quickly materialised.
He said, “It happened very quickly. Two days ago my agent told me that Brighton wanted me here, so I didn’t think too much about it and accepted their offer. I’m really glad to be here.
“I know that the club has a lot of history and I’ve watched their last few games too. I know that they always want to be better, and that’s perfect for me.
“Everything here is incredible; I don’t think I can count all the pitches! I’m not used to it, but I know the players here have everything to improve.
“I still can’t believe that I’ve signed for such a good club. I will need to take a few days for it to sink in.”
The striker is expecting his toughest test yet in England after playing in both Slovenia and Italy, but is now focused on ending the season in the best-possible way on loan with Maribor for the remainder of the campaign.
“It’s important to know how to react in different situations, but England is a different level to what I’ve played in before. The work begins for me now.
“I think the game will be faster and more physical. There are also stronger players here, whereas in Italy, it’s much more about tactics and it’s a much slower game. The English game is very fast, and you are put under a lot more pressure.
“Now I will give my best for the next six months to prepare myself and be ready for pre-season. I will continue to train hard and do my best in the games.”
The Slovenian explained that his long-term aim at the club is simple, and is eager to find the back of the net as many times as possible.
“Everything here is at the top level; I still can’t believe it. I want to score as many goals as possible here.
“That’s is my only aim, just to score goals.”
